Two months ago ....

Two months ago I joined a pilot mentoring project to work with some very successful NLOWE women entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador.

A few years ago I came to the realization that if I ever wanted to start my own business, I really needed to start focusing on me! I learned that I really needed to think about what I needed to do to not only create this business but to also be successful at it! So when NLOWE offered an opportunity to work with Jess Chapman at eThree Consulting and several other women to create a business strategic plan, I jumped at it!

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am quite capable of creating a strategic plan myself – I completed my B.B.A in 2019 and had completed several courses pertaining to developing these types of plans. But I can’t say enough about working with a group on these types of projects. It’s so easy to just put it off, leave it till tomorrow- but when you have a group that is counting on you, accountability becomes Number 1! You have to put the work in now! Not tomorrow, Not next week, Not next month! Now! And that is why I am enjoying this program so much.

I’ve been getting so much out of NLOWE this past year. I mean, this pandemic has impacted each and every one of us around the globe but if there is any sunshine to be had, it has to be that it has pushed us to keep going in a different way. Now, all of the information, knowledge sharing, expertise and networking opportunities that were normally provided through in house sessions are now available online. This is a game changer for me! While being in Labrador does have it perks, it has always been a struggle to avail of the services that they offer – particularly the events and networking sessions they hosted. But now, I can interact online with everyone and attend the same training. This pivot program was no exception. I’ve met some incredible women through this program. We have helped each other, supported each other and most importantly, we have developed a network that will sustain us as we each develop our business goals.

We all come from different backgrounds and offer a diverse range of products and services. There is no competition here – just a group of women interested in growing their business and supporting other women do the same. We are truly blessed to be able to have these resources available to us and this has been an incredible opportunity to participate.

Our consultant Jess, is absolutely wonderful. She really wants to see us all get something out of this. She’s so good at explaining the material and is always available to review our plans and provide feedback. When you have an idea, it is important that you look at your strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and strengths. This will provide you the framework as to where you should be focusing your time, energy and money.

We have now completed 6 of the 8 modules and we are nearing homebase! It is all starting to come together – and I think I have finally reached that Aha! moment that everyone talks about. I’m getting quite excited! I always knew I was on the right path but now I know why. It’s fundamental that you know your WHY – the reason why you are doing what you are doing! It will help form your goals and your vision!
